What is it:

The Horiba ABX Alphalyse (P/N 1210906014) is a hematology lyse reagent used by HORIBA ABX Micros analyzers to perform automated white blood cell (WBC) counting and differential identification. Each kit contains a 360 mL pouch of reagent. It's designed for use with the ABX Micros 60, ABX Micros 60 IM, and ABX Micros CRP 200 hematology analyzers, and is for professional in vitro diagnostic use.

What it's used for:

The Alphalyse is what makes accurate white blood cell counting possible on ABX Micros analyzers. When the analyzer needs to count and differentiate WBCs, it can't see them through the much more numerous red blood cells in a whole blood sample. The Alphalyse selectively destroys (lyses) the red blood cells while preserving the white blood cells intact — letting the analyzer count, classify, and report individual WBC populations (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, etc.) cleanly.

This is the reagent that enables the automated 5-part WBC differential that's central to a Complete Blood Count (CBC) with diff. Without functioning Alphalyse, the analyzer cannot perform a differential — meaning labs running CBC-with-diff testing consume this reagent continuously.

What's included:

  • 1 × 360 mL pouch of ABX Alphalyse hematology reagent
  • Ready-to-use, two-part formulation (hemolyzing agent + cell-fixative)
  • Bag-in-box packaging for clean, contamination-free dispensing
  • For professional in vitro diagnostic (IVD) use only
  • Manufactured for HORIBA ABX SAS

Compatible analyzers:

  • ABX Micros 60
  • ABX Micros 60 IM
  • ABX Micros CRP 200

Alphalyse is designed for HORIBA ABX hematology analyzers using HORIBA ABX reagents. It's not for use with HORIBA's Pentra-family hematology analyzers (Pentra 60 C+, XL 80, DX Nexus) or non-HORIBA instruments — those require different lyse reagents.

Storage & shipping note:

FAQs:

What is the Horiba ABX Alphalyse used for?

It's the lyse reagent that allows HORIBA ABX Micros hematology analyzers to count and differentiate white blood cells. The reagent selectively destroys red blood cells in a whole blood sample while preserving the white cells — letting the analyzer count and classify WBC populations (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils) for an automated 5-part differential as part of a CBC with diff.

Which analyzers is P/N 1210906014 compatible with?

The ABX Micros 60, ABX Micros 60 IM, and ABX Micros CRP 200 hematology analyzers. It's not for use with HORIBA's Pentra-family analyzers or non-HORIBA instruments.

What does "lyse" mean in this context?

Lyse means to break apart or destroy. The Alphalyse contains a hemolyzing agent that specifically targets the membrane of red blood cells, breaking them down while leaving white blood cells intact. This is necessary because RBCs vastly outnumber WBCs in whole blood (roughly 1000:1) — without lysis, the analyzer can't see the white cells well enough to count them accurately.

How much reagent is in one pouch?

Each pouch contains 360 mL of Alphalyse reagent.

How long does a 360 mL pouch typically last?

It depends on testing volume. The analyzer uses a small amount of Alphalyse per CBC-with-diff test, so a high-volume lab may go through one pouch in a few weeks while a lower-volume clinic can make one last several months. Most labs keep at least one spare on hand to avoid downtime.

Can I use a different brand of lyse reagent in my ABX Micros analyzer?

Not recommended. The Alphalyse is specifically formulated for HORIBA ABX Micros analyzers — using a different brand may produce inaccurate WBC counts, fail to provide a correct differential, void manufacturer warranties, or damage the analyzer. Always use the manufacturer-specified reagent.

Does this product need refrigeration?

Yes. Store at 2–8°C, and the product ships directly from the manufacturer with appropriate handling.

Is this the same as Eosinofix or Basolyse?

No — those are different HORIBA hematology reagents used for specific WBC sub-population analyses. Alphalyse is the primary, general-purpose lyse reagent for WBC counting and 5-part differential. Eosinofix and Basolyse are auxiliary reagents used for more detailed sub-population identification on certain analyzers.
